Coin Melt Values
Multiply the coin’s precious-metal content in troy ounces by the spot price of that metal.
Melt value is what the metal in a coin is worth, which is not the same as what anyone will pay you for it. It is still the right number to start from, because it is the one figure about a coin that can be calculated exactly rather than judged: what spot price is, and why every figure in this section is dated. What a coin is worth as a coin is the other half of the answer, and it is in the catalogue.
By metal type
Precious metal content first, because melt price is a hard floor, and for a common coin that holds silver or gold it is very close to what the coin should sell for.
