What G4 means

An 1892-S Morgan dollar in Good (G-4) is worn evenly across its whole surface, and the design reads as an outline rather than a relief: the hair above Liberty’s ear and the cotton bolls in her cap are flat, the eagle’s breast feathers and the tops of its wings show no detail at all, and LIBERTY on the headband, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date are still readable with the rim beginning to merge into the lettering.

A slab, a dealer’s list or a price guide may write this grade G-4. They are the same grade and the same 1892-S Morgan dollar.

Where this grade sits

The grades an 1892-S Morgan dollar is given run from PO1 to MS70. One step up from G4 is Good (G-6). In general terms, the higher the grade the more the coin is worth.

What it sold for

No certified sale of an 1892-S Morgan dollar in G4 is recorded in the sources this site reads, which is what you would expect at this price: certifying a coin costs a large share of what this one is worth, so almost all of them change hands raw and unrecorded. The range above is what the published guides say rather than what anybody paid, and it is the weakest figure on this page.

How to check this yourself

Sold listings, not asking prices. The link below is already filtered to completed sales of an 1892-S Morgan dollar in G4, which is the difference between what somebody paid and what somebody hoped for. If what you find sits outside $92 to $202, trust what you found: it is newer than this page.

Whatever the market does, an 1892-S Morgan dollar cannot be worth less than the metal in it. That figure is what the premium for G4 is measured against, and it moves with the metal price rather than with the coin market.
