An 1879-CC Morgan dollar in Very Fine (VF-25) sits between the two ends of Very Fine: the hair above Liberty’s ear and the cotton bolls in her cap are flattened across more of their area than at thirty and less than at twenty, the eagle’s breast feathers and the tops of its wings keep their major detail, and LIBERTY on the headband, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date are sharp. The three Very Fine rungs are one coin at three degrees of the same wear, which is why a grader can move a coin between them and a buyer can rarely see it.
